Neal A. Sher, MD, FACS, is an internationally known ophthalmic surgeon, teacher, researcher, author and consultant with over 40 years of active practice.
Dr. Sher has worked in the medicolegal area for over 25 years, with extensive deposition and trial testimony for both plaintiff and defense. He has reviewed over four hundred ophthalmology cases for both sides, and has served as an expert in patent litigation in the US, Canada, and the UK for medical devices and pharmaceutical patents. He has worked with leading law firms, insurance companies, and government agencies in medical malpractice, intellectual property, complex eye injuries, and all aspects of forensic ophthalmology.

In 1994, he became the first United States ophthalmologist to receive the International Society for Refractive Surgery’s Richard C. Troutman, MD, DSc( Hon) Prize for his research on pain control following corneal laser surgery.

Dr. Sher is an ophthalmologist, surgeon, researcher, and expert witness with more than four decades of clinical experience. His background includes corneal and refractive surgery, ophthalmic drug and device research, patent proceedings, and litigation involving complex eye injuries. He has also served in academic roles at the University of Minnesota and Northwestern University Medical School. In addition, he donated laser vision correction surgery to more than 900 National Guard and Reserve soldiers deploying to Iraq or Afghanistan, a contribution for which he has received a number of military awards and community recognitions.
